Buxton

Well known for its thermal spring water, Buxton is an elegant spa town in the Peak District area of Derbyshire (although it falls just outside of the national park itself).

Having already been established as a Roman town and known for its baths Buxton became popular in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries when "taking the waters" became fashionable.

At the centre of the town is St. Ann's Well (pictured above), a source of Buxton's famous spring water.

On the outskirts of the town is Poole's Cavern and Solomon's Temple, a Victorian folly on a high hill overlooking the town.

To the west of Buxton lies the Goyt Valley.
