Famous for its associations with James Herriot, horses and horse racing, the market town of Thirsk lies just off the A1 near Northallerton in the Vale of Mowbray between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors national park. As such, the town is conveniently situated for touring some of England's most beautiful and varied countryside.
In the town itself there is a large market square (pictured above) and a museum dedicated to the life and works of James Herriot.
