Pickering is a small town on the edge of the North York Moors in the Vale of Pickering not far from Scarborough and the Yorkshire Coast.

Pickering Station is the starting point for the North York Moors Railway, which passes through the village of Goathland (famous as the setting for the popular TV series "Heartbeat") before terminating at Grosmont in the Esk Valley, or Whitby on the Yorkshire Coast.

Closer nearby is Dalby Forest and Dalby Forest Drive, while attractions in the town itself include Pickering Castle and the Beck Isle Museum.

Pickering is also famous for hosting a very popular 1940s wartime weekend which is usually held in October.
