The Lyke Wake Walk

The infamous Lyke Wake Walk crosses the some of the wildest, remotest and boggiest parts of the North York Moors, beginning at Osmotherley and ending at Ravenscar on the Yorkshire Coast.

Named after the "Lyke Wake Dirge" some have assumed the route follows a traditional "Corpse Way" (for the transport of deceased locals en route to burial) across the moors. This is not believed to be the actual case, though the emblem of the Lyke Wake Walk Club (which ramblers who have completed the walk within twenty four hours are eligible to join) bears a coffin motif.
